Matala

Matala is a coastal village in south Crete. It became famous in the Sixties, when hippies came here from all over the world to live in the celebrated caves of Matala. It is an ideal place for spending your holidays near lovely beaches, large archaeological sites and many traditional villages.

Knossos

The centre of Minoan civilisation, located 5km south of Heraklion, the Minoan palace is the main site of interest at Knossos, an important city in ancient Crete. The Palace of Knossos is connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth, with the Minotaur, and the story of Daidalos and Ikaros.

Agios Nikolaos

A seaside resort, surrounded by beautiful beaches. Agios Nikolaos lake is known for its many legends, it becomes one with the sea through a narrow canal. Souvenir shops sell traditional Cretan art artifacts, copies from the local archaeological museums, jewels, local products and delicacies. The town is filled with traditional coffee shops that serve local dishes and raki. For those who prefer nightlife, there are plenty of bars with a relaxed atmosphere or loud music.

Samaria Gorge

Samaria Gorge located In the region of Chania is the longest in Europe with total length 16km, and one of the most impressive gorges in Greece. It starts at an altitude of 1,230m. Visitors can walk through the gorge for about 6 to 8 hours. Agia Roumeli is a small seaside village that you reach after walking through the Samaria Gorge. There, there is a boat service that can take you directly to Loutro and Hora Sfakion.

Balos Beach

Balos is one of the most photographed beaches in Crete. It is famous for its turquoise waters and its' wild natural beauty. You can visit it by ferry from Kissamos port. The sea is ideal for young children, shallow and warm. The sand has a beautiful pink color, created from millions of crushed shells.

Spinalonga Island

Spinalonga, located in the Gulf of Elounda, next to Plaka, in Lasithi, north-eastern Crete, is worldwide known as a leper colony, hosting patients from 1903 to 1957. From the coast it looks like the remains of a 16th-century Venetian fortress, but on the island you will see the ruined houses and buildings of the colony. For visiting Spinalonga you have to take a boat from Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, or Plaka.

Cretaquarium

The Aquarium of Crete is another great place to visit during your stay in Crete, especially with your children. t is both a research center and a fun, impressive aquarium with 60 tanks and over 100 viewing points of more than 200 Mediterranean marine species.

Lassithi Plateau

At an altitude of 850 m, the Lassithi Plateau is the largest mountain plain in Crete. It is famous for its windmills with white cloths.They were water- and flour mills but nowadays they are abandoned. The plateau consists of 18 villages that are built at the feet of the surrounding mountains and they are connected by a 23km circular road.
